Face your fears

The past few weeks there have been a series of scenarios that I had previously avoided, and had to address straight on. The big one - construction!

If you haven’t walked by recently, we are in the final stages of redoing the sidewalk in front of Forth. There will be a day in the next week or so during which the concrete will be torn apart and reconstructed right in front of our entrance. Honestly, this day has been stressing me out for months. The city and its construction teams aren’t able to give me an exact date, so I’m having to sit with a good amount of anticipatory tension as I await this upcoming disruptive day.

As I’ve been sitting in this tension, I have had to rewire my mindset and practice quite literally what I preach. Sometimes you need to tear things apart to start fresh. We are always in this cycle of destruction and reconstruction, always the opportunity for new beginnings when we realize it. Once you move through what is daunting, you’ll be stronger on the other side.

What would happen if you sit with intensity, instead of running away from it? Maybe you’ll notice the next scary thing isn’t so scary.
